PANSY DUBBERLY ROPER

ImagePansy was born at the homeplace of her paternal grandparents in Baxley, Appling County, Georgia.Her dad, Jasper Leroy "Red" Dubberly worked for his father at his farm. After moving away, the family did not enjoy electricity or indoor plumbing for several years.In time, the family moved to Bay Creek Farms, the property of Ms. Olga Baker, where her parents remained until the death of Red in 2008. She was enrolled at the Altamaha School in rural Appling County, Georgia. Growing up in a farm family was a tough way to learn valuable life lessons. Ms. Baker encouraged Pansy to go to college.

Pansy would be the first of her extended family, including fifty living first cousins in her generation, to go to college. Initially to Young Harris Junior College and she would then graduate from Georgia Southern College where she met her husband of 55 years John W. Roper. She earned a Masters degree in Counseling from Auburn University and then attended law school with John for a year until she left to have and care for the couple's newborn.

Pansy taught Home Economics at Talbotton Road Middle School in Columbus, Georgia for five years. Between 1976 and 2005, she owned a financial services firm she and her husband founded and then served as the office manager and senior review editor in the family law practice for the remainder of her career. Pansy and John moved to Asheville, NC in 2022 to be nearer to their daughter, son-in-law and their grandson.
